Delicious food served in the Great Hall today by schools from throughout the Commonwealth. Had the opportunity to meet the new Assabet Valley Regional Technical School Superintendent and Board Members and I am looking forward to a tour and lunch at the school in the next few weeks!
Amidst the start of the budget debate this week, we honored the legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a commeration of his speech 50 years ago to the MA Joint Convention of the Two Branches on April 22, 1965. Joined by the Governor, we had a very moving hour as members of the MA Black and Latino Legislative Caucus recited Dr. Martin Luther King, Jrs. address and we closed the commeration singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing". Hard to believe that so much of what Dr. King spoke of 50 years ago still rings true today and his doctrine of non-violence still wise guidance to all.
Wonderful event for Worcester PIF tonight at the Crompton Collective. Delicious food and wine and a great evening to support raising funds for an organization that teaches youth positive life values through athletics.
Remembering the tragedy of the Boston Marathon bombing and reflecting on the strength of those affected by it and our collective response to move forward with tears and togetherness.
Honored to be asked by the Minority Leader to serve as his designee on Treasurer Goldberg's Task Force on Financial Literacy. MA was recently given a failing grade on the financial literacy of our residents. This task force will focused on developing recommendations on how to empower citizens with the resources they need to plan to budget their money, save for retirement and better understand the impact of economic decisions.
Caitlin and I had fun at the International Cultural Day at Fales School today...grateful for Shazia's invite to attend!
Amazing day!!! So exciting getting sworn in as State Representative by Governor Charlie Baker with my family and friends, and my two predecessors in the chamber. I can't thank everyone enough for all they did to make this day possible!! This afternoon I also took my first vote, voting to enact the $200 million in Chapter 90 funding for improvements to our roads and bridges. This funding will provide Shrewsbury $988,959 and Westborough $780,403 to complete much needed repairs in the upcoming construction season, especially given the tough winter season that caused significant damage to our roads and bridges!
Spent part of my day at the State House getting ready to be sworn in on Wednesday. Saw my friend Francisco Urena who serves as Secretary of Veterans' Affairs honoring the the #GoldStar Wives Network 70th Anniversary for all of their work supporting spouses and families of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. My Legislative Aide Charlyce Bozzello, who worked on my campaign and will be graduating from Holy Cross next month, and I also took a look at our new office space, room 236 in the State House! Will be ready for visitors soon!
